On 22nd November 2019, 6 members of the Adjuno Hong Kong team put down their usual day job and volunteered to assist Box of Hope for an afternoon of checking boxes donated by school children ready for shipment.

The Box of Hope charity started in 2008 by two friends who wanted to teach their children, who were 6 at the time, the gift of giving. Each year, the charity collects boxes filled with brand new useful and educational products which follow the box contents guidelines.

In each box, donators are encouraged to include a minimum of 3 items – something the child recipient will love, something they can do and something they can use. Each child donating a box is advised to follow the below categories before dropping their donated box to a collection point:

  • Toys (Soft toys, tennis ball, jigsaw or a torch)
  • Stationary (Books, pens, pencils, colouring book or a calculator)
  • Hygiene (Toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush or a bar of wrapped soap)

For Adjuno’s 6 volunteers, their time was taken ensuring each box they checked adhered to the guidelines given by the charity. This is a step the charity could not do on their own without volunteers helping due to the volume of Christmas boxes donated each year.

Many of the underprivileged children in Hong Kong and Asia who receive the boxes at Christmas will never have received a gift before.

In 2008, when the charity first started collecting gifts, they collected 1,200 individually decorated boxes. Fast forward 10 years, last year the charity collected an incredible 35,252 boxes. A fantastic achievement.

Amongst the box count for 2019, the count will include boxes generously donated from the Adjuno Hong Kong teams children and their childrens schools. Adjuno are proud to have been involved with this year’s collection and eagerly await to hear how many boxes were kindly donated from local schools, communities and companies in and around Hong Kong.
